First SMD Soldering
Posted by ArmedGeek on Monday, August 31, 2009 in Microcontrollers
Well, here it is. I finally got the nerve (and the board) to try hand soldering a damned tiny microcontroller to an adapter board. It really wasn’t that hard, however at this point I don’t actually know if it works.

Oooooh! ‘Lectronix!!
Watcha gonna build? *slobbers a bit*
That thar is one of them new-fangled Atmel basic-language microprocessors – eh?
.5mm (25-mil pitch?) ain’t no walk in the park, soldering-wise! Too small for these old eyes. Bring back 100-mil thru-hole, I say!
…And Fleming valves! Harrumph!
Holy sheeee-it….
That is TINY!!!
Of course, I only solder stained glass. Jeez…. I’m stunned!
Yeah, was rather unpleasant to solder that.
@Steamboat:
no. It is an atmega chip, programmed in c.
and yeah, bringing back through-hole would be nice. How big exactly would a 100 pin uC be in a DIP package ?
Well…um…we can wish, can’t we?
Atmega? Damn. It looks like Atmel on the chip face! Rats! Processor? Or PLD/PLA/whatever?
What ya building, we wonders, yes we wonders….?
Or…is the question indiscreet?
It’s shore nuff purty.
What micro, pray tell, will it control?
@Steamboat:
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. It is an Atmel AVR. AtMega2560.
I have a couple of projects being worked on. This particular board was mostly just to see if I could hand solder a 100pin uC.
