Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon

woodford

The picture doesn’t do this stuff justice. Woodford Reserve has the prettiest color of any whiskey I’ve laid eyes on.

Here’s what readers said about last week’s BotW Maker’s Mark

I do find it is a bourbon I can drink straight, but find it easier to first burn my throat to appreciate it. Anyway, I didn’t want a detailed recipe, like Hemingway’s Old Fashioned (shit, that was waaaay too complicated to repeat if one’s purpose is to get sotted), but did find a simple one that was rather divine:

Bourbon Satin

1 1/2 oz Maker’s Mark Bourbon
1 oz white creme de cacao
1 oz half-and-half

Pour the bourbon whiskey, white creme de cacao and half-and-half into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes. Shake well, strain into chilled cocktail glass, and serve. For a twist, substitute Bailey’s for the creme de cacao, but that makes it a bit sweet.

Even the name is sensual, no?

If any of you would like to join me in my march across a liquor store you’re certainly more than welcome. If you’d like to participate all you need do is wait for the BotW post on Saturdays and sometime before the next Saturday, pick up a bottle of the BotW and give it a spin (heh, see what I did there?)

Email me your opinions, cocktails you tried with the BotW, and any other thoughts on it and I’ll post them

The color is very intense, isn’t it? Almost like a red sunset. Can’t wait to try a recipe for it!

And thanks for posting my recipe :)

Too bad it’s bourbon. It is pretty. I like the bottle; simple, direct.

cbullit: What would you suggest for next week ?

  4. Damned good stuff. I (vaguely) remember finishing the better part of a bottle of that with my wife’s uncle a few years back, when he was still above room temperature. Cleaning out his place I found the balance of that bottle and took the liberty of finishing it myself on behalf of both of us. Damn, I miss Uncle Eddie….
