You just can’t photograph a cocktail

Posted by ArmedGeek on Thursday, October 29, 2009 in Geekery, Personal

Or at least I can’t.

manhattan

I tried to get a picture of this thing. Honestly, in person, it is a redish golden color. Looks like a red-tinted bourbon. Beautiful. I must’ve taken a dozen pictures and cant’ get the lighting right. The picture always comes out too red/dark.

Oh well. This is what I’m fucking drinking. If anyone has any advice about photographing booze let me know.

Hmm…I’m no expert, but I have noticed a lot of cocktail pics tend to be lit from below, and done with a light-colored background. Nicole may know how to do it, since she is into photography!

And the drinks shown in pics don’t “sweat”, so they are probably done at room temp ;)

I’ll try lighting from low, but I ain’t letting a cold drink get warm.

  4. LC Aggie Sith says:

You can mix it without ice, take the pic, and then shake again on ice, you know….

Well, that sounds entirely too fucking complicated. Feel free to come over here and mix/photograph my drinks.

  6. LC Aggie Sith says:

    Dude….

    THIS is complicated???

    And you work with computers….

I think you missed the “complicated” part ……..you need to come over here and show me

Damn, there once was a day when you didn’t have to try this hard.

    Oh, I got it….

Just figured I should refrain from a saucy comment ;)

    LOL

I have no idea how to take good pictures. I just like them. :) And yeah, I think you have to work at it, so it would delay the booze intake.

    Oh, and another thing….

Get some of those fake ice cubes for the drinks-on-ice shots. Since they are plastic they won’t dilute the drink ;)

Try putting a bright light behind a piece of parchment paper behind the drink and shooting it as a back-lit shot without a flash.

Just my two fingers’ worth. :D

    I shall try that.

Is that your bar tab sticking out from under the keyboard?

No wonder your drinking at home!

I figure it’s easier to take the pic after you are done “using” the alcohol, like this:

Note the full color, the volume, and the reflection off the liquid.

    Pure poetry.

Man, I really need to start cleaning up my backgrounds before I take pictures. And, no. That’s the packing list from my last tobacco purchase.

    @WAMK:

Absolutely, I’m sure pictures of projectile vomiting is just what this site needs. :)

Damn….sure adds to the dignity ;)
