Scrubbed CRU Data Hacked, Recovered And Released
For the two or three people that haven’t seen this:
CBullitt has it at Soylent Green:
Remember when England’s CRU scrubbed all its temp data in response to Steve McIntyre’s FOIA requests? I, like many, concluded they did so because the data supported Steve and not their Mann-Briffa, hockey stick Thermageddon scenarios requiring Waxman-Markey type “Solutions.” I likened the whole affair to the plot of a spy novel, with moles and secrets.
Science is dead but it ain’t AGW that killed it. Science was dead way before AGW. These days the only areas doing real science is space exploration and pharmaceutical research. That seems to be the only areas where the scientists doing research don’t already have an answer they’re supposed to be proving/disproving.
Comfortable clothes
At risk of giving a little bit of my personal life away …
Anyone who wears BDUs knows that they’re kind of like blue jeans. They’re stiff and scratchy when they’re new but the older they are the more comfortable they become. Sadly, today I had to retire my favorite pair of BDU trousers.
*moment of silence*
I hate breaking in new pants, but damn, they do look sharp when brand new.
Not bad for an irrelevant hick from Alaska
From The Daily Beast via HotAir:
A HarperCollins insider told The Daily Beast that the book sold a staggering 300,000 copies on the first day alone, which was Tuesday. “Sales are phenomenal, and we are convinced that the book will continue to sell phenomenally for some time to come,” says the insider. They’re not prevaricating: As of 2:30pm today, the book was #1 on Amazon, ahead of both Stephen King’s new novel, Under the Dome, and Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol. The latter sold 1 million copies on its first day, but that figure included the UK, and top fiction generally trumps non-fiction. Any way you carve it, Going Rogue looks to be a $12 million goldmine.
The truly funny thing about this is that it is the Left that just cannot seem to shut up about her. Don’t get me wrong, I love the hell out of her, but how many VP nominees that lost can you name?
Teh Won Speaks
“You guys make a pretty good photo op,” [President Obama] said.
While on his “Apology-Looza Tour II”, Prez Obama made a 52 minute stop at Osan Air Base in South Korea, and though he could not be bothered to make a decision as to the troop surge in Afghanistan, he did take the time to thank South Korea for their efforts in the war in Afghanistan. You know, the unilateral front?
As a parting shot, he got a “huge cheer” from the troops as he told them they would be getting a pay raise. Which is interesting, considering Congress has to vote on a raise before he can sign off on it. As Prez Obama X said, “That’s what you call an applause line.”
Underboob, uh, of the Week, I guess

New Pipe
Recently I purchased a new pipe. This is a “premium” pipe from a respected pipe maker.

This is a $75 pipe. Now, the problem is … it’s kinda tough to pack tobacco and light afire a $75 pipe. I’ve not actually smoked this yet. I have not decided what sort of tobacco I want to introduce to this work of fucking art.
Gin or Booze of the Week update
I finally made it down to the liquor store to pick up a couple more bottles of gin.

I’ve killed the last of the New Amsterdam and have started on the Beefeater. Still doing gin & tonics. I can’t yet identify exactly what is different between the New Amsterdam and the Beefeater but it is certainly different. I’m going to try to get to making a martini with the Beefeater before I call it a day. If I succeed I’ll post the results in and update.
Oh, and this obviously starts another round of ‘find the stuff in the background’.
Update: The New Amsterdam is kinda “citrus-y” where the Beefeater leans more towards what I’ve heard people call “pine needle-y”
By The Numbers
That’s the size of Prez Obama’s motorcade as he traveled from the Beijing airport. True, it included official Chinese greeting vehicles, but even with the entire Chinese delegation, 71 vehicles is excessive.
Unless they were needed for Our Prez’ ego….
Consider this your numerically-inclined Open Thread.
New Website Update
The new website is still under construction. It is a little hard to learn a new language and framework at the same time, but it seems to be moving along well.
The hardest part to date was writing the script to convert all my existing WordPress data into the new website’s database. That works now.
Most of the basic stuff works, but I still need to implement the sidebar stuff and an admin panel for adding posts and whatnot.
I’ll keep y’all informed.
