Mother kills newborn, can’t be charged with crime
Investigators tell WSLS the baby’s airway was still blocked. They say the baby was under bedding and had been suffocated by her mother. Investigators say because the mother and baby were still connected by the umbilical cord and placenta, state law does not consider the baby to be a separate life. Therefore, the mother cannot be charged.
As if we needed yet another example that legislators were fucking morons.
Iraqi troops in standoff with Iran
Iraqi troops massed Saturday near an oil well on the border in a standoff with Iranian forces that seized control of the site in a sudden flare up of tension between the two uneasy neighbors.
The top U.S. diplomat in Iraq said Baghdad’s speedy response to the border incursion showed that Iraq is “not going to be pushed around” by Iran.

I read that that Iraqi well dispute happens every few months. Each country occupies the place for a while, paints it in their national colors and puts up a flag, gets bored after a few weeks or so and leaves. Then the other nation comes in and does the same thing.
