Investigators tell WSLS the baby’s airway was still blocked. They say the baby was under bedding and had been suffocated by her mother. Investigators say because the mother and baby were still connected by the umbilical cord and placenta, state law does not consider the baby to be a separate life. Therefore, the mother cannot be charged.
As if we needed yet another example that legislators were fucking morons.
Iraqi troops in standoff with Iran
Iraqi troops massed Saturday near an oil well on the border in a standoff with Iranian forces that seized control of the site in a sudden flare up of tension between the two uneasy neighbors.
The top U.S. diplomat in Iraq said Baghdad’s speedy response to the border incursion showed that Iraq is “not going to be pushed around” by Iran.

Nelson announced this morning that the language in the manager’s amendment on aborti0n will be enough to secure his support for Reid’s compromise bill, but Think Progress reports on what really sold Nelson — or bought Nelson, depending on your perspective.
So another Congress-critter gets publicly bought. This is not going to stop, no one in a position to stop it is even concerned about it.
How much worse is it going to get when most of these folks resign themselves to the fact that they’re going to lose their job soon. Once, there’s no chance at re-election how bad is the pillaging going to get ?

Sen. Chuck Schumer loves the sound of his own voice, but it carried a bit farther than he might have liked on the US Airways shuttle from New York to Washington on Sunday.
According to a House Republican aide who happened to be seated nearby, the notoriously chatty New York Democrat referred to a flight attendant as a “bitch” after she ordered him to turn off his phone before takeoff.
Now, this is the same guy who was sponsoring an airline passengers’ bill of rights just a year ago. Schumer is an elitist prick, as we all know. But what I find truly sickening is this:
Schumer and his seatmate, Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), were chatting on their phones before takeoff when an announcement indicated that it was time to turn off the phones.
Both senators kept talking.
According to the GOP aide, a flight attendant then approached Schumer and told him the entire plane was waiting on him to shut down his phone.

When the flight attendant walked away, the witness says Schumer turned to Gillibrand and uttered the B-word.
WTF???? Not only does Schumer impugn a flight attendant, he does it in front of a FEMALE senator, and she does nothing???? As far as I’m concerned, Gillibrand showed her true colors right there and then. Way to go, New York. You deserve everything these two “do” for you.

If you recall, I wrote a post about a statue of President Barack Obama erected in Jakarta, Indonesia last week. Turns out not everyone in Indonesia is pleased about it:
JAKARTA, Indonesia — A statue of President Barack Obama as a boy erected in a Jakarta park has been targeted in a Facebook campaign by thousands who say it should be removed.
The Facebook group named “Take Down the Barack Obama Statue in Taman Menteng Park” had attracted more than 10,000 members by Tuesday since the 43-inch statue of 10-year-old Obama dressed in shorts and a T-shirt was unveiled in the downtown park on Thursday last week.

A Recommendation
Lately I’ve been watching a British TV series about a psychologist with a talent for getting into the head of really bad people. The main character manages equal parts likability and downright creepiness with just a dash of tortured soul. For those of you with Netflix, this show is available via “Watch Instantly” on your PC.
I must warn you, this show tends to be much more graphic in both visuals as well as subject matter than what we’re used to on local television.
