Watchmen

Posted by ArmedGeek on Saturday, January 9, 2010 in Entertainment

This city is afraid of me. I have seen it’s true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout “Save us!”…

…and I’ll look down, and whisper “no.”

I’m don’t expect you all to run out and read the source material, but you should watch the film.

They did do a good job of adapting very difficult source material. And the first 10 minutes or so are some of the best I’ve seen in movies. A phenomenal treatment of the passage of history used to set the scene. And Rorschach is just kick ass.

Probably something wrong with me, but even given the presence in the movie of perfectly sculpted man flesh, I found the scrawny, runty psycho more appealing. Well, him and the original Silk Spectre from back in the day. Rawr.

the scrawny, runty psycho was the only one that didn’t have flexible morals. That’s what I liked about him.

between “The Watchmen” and “Sin City”, some great material there indeed.

  4. I should read it first, as I did with Sin City. Then I can watch and appreciate the film.

As I told Nicole, I couldn’t get into the movie. Maybe it was due to kids screaming upstairs, or trying to clean up the kitchen, or that blue guy walking around in all his “glory”….but I did like the psycho :)

Reading it wouldn’t hurt. And it isn’t a movie I’d want to try watching with screaming kids in the background or while I was multitasking. :) At least not the first time through. I didn’t read it till afterwards though and still liked the movie. But if you read Sin City and got more out of the movie then, then that’s probably the way to go for this. :)

Scrawny psycho dude was great, but I was hoping for a little more Carla Cugino flesh, a la Sin City. Nudge-nudge, wink-wink.

And the Blue Swinging Dick guy was kinda weird and distracting; but I did enjoy the gratuitous violence, bloodletting, arm chopping, neck stabbing and body explosions.

However, I enjoyed Sin City much more. Like to see a sequel, in fact.

I thought there was a Sin City 2? Or it’s planned, anyway.

Yeah, I’m not sure about Sin City 2. Based on the amount of available information I think its “too early to say”. Could be a rumor, could be so early as to still be in the “idea” phase.

I didn’t read Watchmen before I saw the movie, but I think Sin City and Watchmen nailed the atmosphere very well.

Both suck you into their world and take you for a nice little ride.

So, of course, I had to buy the “Ultimate Cut” box set. Awesomer!
