A. Opportunity
If memory serves, the tribune was run under the firm hand of one Col. McCormick. He was a staunch Republican, but of even more importance, he out and out hatred for FDR, his policies, his advisers, his effrontery for breathing the same air, living during the same point in time, as he did.
This cartoon was only one of the many ways McCormick chose to strike at FDR, via his pride and joy, “The Chicago Tribune”. If only his paper was as strong and vibrant a voice today. It is but a shell of it’s former self, and we are all the poorer for this.
Just goes to show ya, “the price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”
And as soon as the opportunity arose they started infiltrating the government and doing that even more profligately.
Prophecy indeed. What this nation needs is a good enema.
