Punishment via Taxes

Posted by ArmedGeek on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in Politics

I was reading this over at AIR.

First: Punish something and you get less of it. Let’s be more specific: Tax the everloving shit out of people who make money, and their incentive to make more money will drop. Either that or they’ll take their money and leave. It really isn’t all that hard to understand, even though we freely admit that grokking it doesn’t provide you with quite the same level of masturbatory pleasure that being able to say “I voted for the first black president” gets you. If you’re as shallow as a dish and dumber than a Barbara Boxer of Rocks, that is.

Here’s the thing I don’t get. The left has no problem figuring that taxing tobacco makes people stop smoking, and they understand that higher taxes on junk food makes people stop buying the stuff. Yet when you suggest that higher taxes on making money would make people stop making money …. you get a look like you just told them that the universe does not, in fact, revolve around BHO.

PS: I also noticed they need to fix their mod_rewrite settings.

You have to remember something about the Left Aggie: taxes are punishment for sins – economic, ecological and racial sins. That they are a vehicle to raise revenue for their beloved government programs is entirely secondary. That’s why they don’t care if they take in less money for higher rates. The money really isn’t the point at all. In fact, that taxes tend to suppress economic activities is a feature, not a bug to the standard leftist. All economics above basic subsistence levels for people constitutes ecological rape and resource squandering to them. That is why rich liberals like high income taxes – paying those taxes are their way of paying penance for their economic and ecological sin (and if they are white liberals, also racial sin). If they feel particularly ecologically sinful they can purchase additional indulgences in the form of carbon credits (aka – voluntary taxes!). Once you start to look at all the things they do in this religious context a lot of what they do makes sense in a twisted sort of way.

  2. I agree with almost everything, except the “rich liberals” part. Yes, some do not mind paying, but you’ll find quite a lot of them tend to find those little loopholes and avoid paying as much as they should.

The other thing I have a quibble over is, I didn’t write this post :D
