Booze of the Week

Posted by ArmedGeek on Thursday, April 8, 2010 in BOTW

I’m sorta reposting the Booze of the Week since my lame attempt at humor started more of a nostalgia trip than I imagined. I really didn’t know Boone’s Farm was the teen alcohol for everyone. No shit. I never thought it was so universal.

Anyway. Bushmills Irish Whiskey.

Ok, so Jameson was actually my first foray into Irish Whiskey and I must say, I liked it. However the question remains .. do I like Jameson Irish Whiskey or do I like Irish Whiskey. On to my second bottle.

First difference I noticed was immediate. Bushmills smells sweeter than Jameson. It looks mostly the same, maybe a hair darker.

The first sip of Bushmills also tastes a bit sweeter (to match the smell) and slightly ‘bolder’ (i guess matching the color). For the most part the flavor is the same, just a bit more of it. I could go on and on about the different flavors but my tongue ain’t that good. The best words I can put to it is that the Bushmills is sweeter than the Jameson. The Jameson being ‘dryer’. There seems to be a bit more burn to the Bushmills although both are 80 proof. The Bushmills coats the tongue with flavor better. I think you taste the Jameson more in the back of your mouth (if that makes any sense at all).

If you’ve not indulged in the Irish Whiskeys, you really should. One final note, both the Irish Whiskeys I’ve been drinking on the rocks.

I’m liking it. I wouldn’t say it is *better* than Jameson, but it is “different in a good way”. If that makes sense.

  3. Hmmm…. I guess I’ll keep that in stock as well. I’m more particular to the “sweet” than to the “dry”, so that’s a plus for me :)

  4. Well, my knowledge and experience with whisky is scant. I’m mostly familiar with beer and an occasional wine. Well, I guess I’m very familiar with Ouzo and Sambucca, as I really enjoy the licorice flavor of both.

That being said, reading many of your posts on “the booze of the week” has aroused some curiosity, and I’m gonna have to dry several varieties of whisky and rum that you’ve posted about to see what all the fuss is about. I think I’m gonna go with the rum first.

    Armed Geek, keep ‘em coming.

  5. Yeah, well you still owe me a glass of Bushmill’s for having to comment twice on this post.

I’m a Jameson’s fan. So, no Bushmills (though I always liked the name, heh) for me.
