Spam, Glorious Spam!
Inspired by Nicole, I decided to peruse Askimet’s net, otherwise known as Spam Hell, and see what goodies I could find. It was eye-opening, to say the least. The very least:
Today I was specially registered at a forum to participate in discussion of this question.
That was in response to Booze of the Week. Maybe the commenter thought this was an AA forum.
Great tips to follow. Being professional and showing them there’s more to come I think are the most important. You need to give them a great article, that makes them want to come back. And then make sure you don’t disappoint.
That one was in response to Testosterone Goodness. This is puzzling seeing as it was a video post of an upcoming movie. Hardly any content whatsoever….just serious eye-candy. Finally, we get this one:
Our funds are in dire need of a examination and you’ve helped.
That was on the Goliad Massacre, making that comment the most bizarre by far. I wish I got some good ones about being wonderful like Nicole does, but all that shows up is mostly escort services and pr0n, mostly in Russian. Hope you enjoyed the Spaminocity ![]()
Your Friendly Mother’s Day Shopping Guide
Well, gentlemen, it’s that time again. As some of you may recall, I posted a public service announcement concerning Valentine’s Day. I hate to tell you, but y’all ain’t done yet. Not by a longshot. The good news is, Mother’s Day seems to be less fraught with pitfalls. Moms tend to be grateful for little things, especially from their children. An overcooked breakfast in bed presented with a homemade card is just this side of Heaven for us. For the dads, it’s not so easy. They can’t rely on cutesy or adorable like kids can. But you can rely on moi. First up we have The Family Necklace from Red Envelope:
Representative of the whole family, you have the option of one, two, or three children. If you have more children, I would suggest this:
The “Mom’s Bouquet” hand-painted wine glass from Lolita. With a name like that, you can’t go wrong. And if you do choose to give a wine glass, make sure to supply a bottle of wine as well. Giving a glass without something to put in it is like giving a box of chocolate with empty wrappers. It’s just not done!!! (more…)
Rahm-bunctious!
From the Windy City, comes a report of Rahm Emanuel’s further political aspirations:
He has been equivocal on the subject in the past, but on Monday night White House chief of staff and native Chicago Rahm Emanuel made no bones about it: He wants to be the mayor of Chicago.
Why not? He sure fits the mold, doesn’t he?
“I hope Mayor [Richard} Daley seeks re-election. I will work and support him if he seeks re-election,” Emanuel told Charlie Rose on the host’s PBS talk show, in an interview broadcast Monday night. “But if Mayor Daley doesn’t, one day I would like to run for mayor of the city of Chicago. That’s always been an aspiration of mine, even when I was in the House of Representatives.”
Translation: “I learned everything I could from you, Dick Daley, and it’s my turn now. You are a has-been, Dick, and it’s high time a true pro took over this cesspool and turned it into a sewer”.
Mayor Daley, consider that interview a warning, and make sure to check the mailbox and the doormat for any dead fish.
Booze of the Week
Not exactly top shelf stuff, but I picked up a bottle on the recommendation of my liquor dealer.
Arizona to allow concealed weapon without permit
From AP:
Favoring the constitutional right to bear arms over others’ concerns about gun safety, Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill making Arizona the third state allowing people to carry a concealed weapon without requiring a permit.
Heh. There is no media bias.
The measure takes effect 90 days after the current legislative session ends, which likely puts the effective date in July or August.
“I believe this legislation not only protects the Second Amendment rights of Arizona citizens, but restores those rights as well,” Brewer, a Republican, said in a statement.
Alaska and Vermont now do not require permits to carry concealed weapons.
The part of the story that really caught my eye was this:
Why the fuck would you use a picture of scary black rifles in a story about concealed weapons ?
Unemployment
The data are oscillating about a slowly increasing value, indicating that, if anything, unemployment claims are increasing. That means that for the past 5 1/2 months, every time the administration has told us that the unemployment situation is slowly recovering, and that the data show “the right trend,” they have been absolutely mistaken.
