Booze of the Week
Johnnie Walker Green Label is a blended scotch which is going to turn many of you off immediately. It shouldn’t however. It isn’t a terribly light scotch like the Glenmorangie or the Glen Moray. There’s a lot of flavor here without a harsh edge. I’ve only tried one other blend, Chivas Regal, and the Johnnie Walker certainly tastes much more scotch-like than the Chivas. The price of the stuff, unfortunately, is a bit high. My recommendation is that if it is available, give it a try as it might change your perception a bit on blended scotch whiskys.

Green is the peatiest of the Walkers that I’ve tried. Gold to me is somewhere between Black’s sweetness and Green’s peat, not a bad place to be, really.
Green is indeed peaty. It also lends itself well to mixed drinks.
Don’t y’all dare call me a heretic.
Hehe, no such talk from me!
In college as root beer was hard to come by we’d make ‘scotch floats’ using vanilla ice cream and cheap scotch like King George IV or some such.
This years tipple is Aberlour A’Bunadh, cask strength from sherry wood, no age statement.

Never mix your whiskey with noting but water.
I break that rule occasionally.
When I’m outside in the cold, camping or tailgating for December football, I’ll make whiskey-hot chocolate.
You mix the hot chocolate mix into the whiskey and then add hot water.
That’s fantastic and you can make it very strong and it still tastes darn good.
How bout a little love for the clear alcohol drinkers? A nice vodka (Tito’s is my current new favorite) or gin (Sapphire will always be the standard.)
But as I tell my fellow alcoholics, I never judge you on what you drink. Just so long as you drink!
SWA: There’s a lot more here than scotch.
Booze of the Week
Kinda’ off topic but does anybody know how flammable this stuff is?
I’m…um…asking for a friend.
SWA – there’s clear alcohol?
Who ever heard of such a thing!
What will they think of next?
Clear alcohol?
How will you know when your glass is empty?
Scotch is good; so is bourbon, but the best of both are single malt. Still, even a so-so whiskey is better than a beer.
The thing is the difference between blended whiskys. Some, the ones that ae shit, are blended with neutral spirits or corn hooch. The others are blended from other single malts.
For an experiment in blended whisky, try a living cask. You start out with a small tapped sherry cask. Pour in a bottle of whisky and when it gets down aboot halfway or so, pour in a bottle of another whisky. This can go on for years if you want, and you’ll always have your own unique blend of single malts on hand.

You are correct, my esteemed friend, and I meant no disrespect. But it has been nearly a year since you had a clear alcohol. And I had to go back to October 2010 to find a vodka!
SWA, you are correct, it has been a while. That’s mostly due to my path through the liquor store. For the most part I’ve moved from section to section with the exception of doing some dark rums while I was still in the bourbon section.
Everything is scotch these days because that is the section of the store I’m working through.
More than likely, once I’m done getting a taste of every different type of booze, I’ll start heading back through to get some of the stuff I missed.
As far as vodka goes .. how much can you say about it?
Really?? I mean, different grains, different distilling techniques, flavored ones, etc….
Armed Geek, just saw a bottle of Green today.
Yikes! More than I want to pay.
BTW – Sent you another BOTW, same aisle, different shelf.
