Today marks the end of an era. The traditional rivalry between Texas A&M University and University of Texas will play their last game this evening. There’s a lot of history between the schools, and suffice it to say, some of it is….not too pretty. But all things, good or bad, come to an end.

I wanted to announce a new feature at H&B…
DeadPool
The rules are simple. You pick 25 celebrities that you think will kick the bucket in the next year. If a celebrity on your list dies, you are awarded points based on the age of the celebrity when they died. Points are calculated as 100 -- age at time of death with a minimum score of 1.
The game lasts 1 year. It starts this Oct 31 and ends next Oct 31. Grand prize is your choice of Hookers & Booze coffee mug or beer stein. Details on the prize will come along soon.
The website for this game is not quite done yet, but I wanted to give you all a heads-up so you can start planning your lists. I’ll announce the address of the website in a couple of days.

Who wants to play some cards?
I’m curious if any of y’all would be interested in a little online Texas Holdem. I’ve set up a private server and the client runs on Windows, OSX and Linux. It would be a dedicated server for just us .. by ‘us’ I mean our little corner of the blogosphere.
Its a simple little application, not spyware or anything, no money involved. If there’s enough interest I’ll add a leaderboard to keep track of the winners and losers.
Let me know what you guys think. If you guys and gals want to give it a go, I’ll post download links for the client and start scheduling times to play.
Also, you’ll notice that the chat thingy has changed. I’m now running a flash IRC application that ties into our very own Hookers & Booze IRC server.

Challenge of the Friar
Once again, a gauntlet has been thrown. The Curtal Friar posted a challenge to other bloggers, mainly to post pics of ourselves as teenagers. Lucky for me Sadly, I have no pics of me as a teenager uploaded. My sister, being the kind and generous soul that she is, had one of me at the tender age of ten at her Facebook page, which she insisted I use.
Don’t bother clicking on it, since it will not embiggenify. Thank goodness. I was not a very feminine looking girl, since I tend to favor my dad, who is a handsome man, but still a man. I briefly toyed with the idea of posting a current pic of me, but I have no idea how to do the bar-over-the-eyes thing. I can argue the finer points of the fall of the Roman Empire, but technologically, I am a n00b.

Mel Strikes Again
A few days ago, Mel over at Big Fat Nerve threw yet another gauntlet at her gullible readers. The challenge: to come up with a band name, album title, and cover art using various websites. This is my entry:
It actually speaks to me. Well, more like screams about me, doesn’t it? Here are the rules:
1 – Go to Wikipedia and hit random. The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 – Go to quotationspage.com and hit random. The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
3 – Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”. Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4 – Use Photoshop or similar (picnik.com is a free online photo editor) to put it all together.
5 – Post it on your blog along with these instructions, and trackback or link to your post in these comments.

On a wager from cbullitt, some of us intrepid bloggers decided to test the consensus-infested waters, and see if the name INHOFE attracts “fragmentary sci-gibberish” spam from esteemed (as in “steaming piles of regurgitated flotsam”) institutes of higher learning, like UCLA, mostly in the Southern California region. I couldn’t just post a title, so I decided to pay tribute to Snarky Basterd:
