When our technology turns on us
IPhones, IPads, Android phones have been discovered tracking our movements. Michigan law enforcement is apparently extracting data from smart-phones without warrant or probable cause.
We are quickly approaching a point where our personal electronic devices cannot be trusted. While some people believe that no electronic device can or should be trusted, I’m of the opinion that without being able to trust in the security of our devices the full potential of these tools will never be realized.
When I talk about being able to trust our devices, I’m not talking about them being safe from hackers. That will never happen. Our own homes or cars aren’t safe from criminals. I’m talking about our devices being used against us in ways that we do not wish to allow. If the people that write software and manufacture our electronic devices do not begin taking customer privacy much more seriously and if we’re unable to stop government from assuming that since these devices did not exist when the 4th Amendment was written they shouldn’t be covered by its protections then I’m afraid we’re going to start seeing more people downgrading their technology. More people ditching their smart-phones for older style “dumb” cell phones.
We can force our government to get out of our gadgets just as voters in Houston have banned the use of red-light cameras.
Something is odd about this Chevy 327 V-8
That’s not just a really big quarter.

…..and it runs.
Smart Guns
Bob Owens of Confederate Yankee writes up a good piece about “smart guns”:
The simple fact of the matter is that technological hurdles are only part of the problem, and there are only very few people who have any real interest in seeing the technology come to fruition. Traditional defenders of gun rights have joined with their anti-gun foes to attack what both sides consider a gimmicky solution.

New Toy
I got a new toy in the mail.

It is a breakout board for Atmel’s at90usb162 microcontroller, along with supporting hardware and USB connector.
You can program Bumble-B without any special hardware and using entirely free and open source software from Atmel and the AVR community.
You can find it at Fletchtronics.net. Tell him ArmedGeek sent you and he might write “Bomb Parts” on the package before he mails it.
