Multitudinous Echoes Awoke…
…and died in the distance…..And, when the echoes had ceased, like a sense of pain was the silence.*
Monocerotis, Supergiant star V838.
A “light echo” is formed as light travels from the orange glowing supergiant through gas and dust. Maybe I’m being romantic, but the foreground stars look like twinkling diamonds on a bed of soft sable. Or milk chocolate.

Last Rendezvous
I was updating some of the applications to my phone this morning, when it occurred to me I had not downloaded the latest Hubble pics. What was I thinking??? Oh, yeah…. life intruded. So, I thought I would share some of my favorites here, since I can. Heh!
This nebula is known as NGC 6302. The result of gases released by a dying star, it earns the nickname “Butterfly Nebula”. Much more poetic, in my opinion. (more…)
Where I’ve Been…
I’m sure there’s at least one or two of you that’s noticed my absence. I’m sure LC Aggie Sith is one of them. Well, a long long time ago I started a project. I decided to write a video game all by my lonesome. This proved to be quite the task but I felt my programming skills were up to the challenge. Which, for the most part, they are. Unfortunately, I suck at making art for a game (or art in general). And artists would rather starve than work cheap. So I eventually shelved the idea.
I started back up again.
I decided that I’d use whatever art I could scrounge from the internet in an effort to get the game completed. I hope that once the game is done that I may be in a better position to lure artists into cutting me a deal. The downside of such a tactic is that I cannot release the game even after it is finished until I replace all of the art.
So, explanation done …. screenshots after the jump …

Lots of patience and free time
From Daily Mail:
The undercarriage retracts and the controls work, although the levers are so small they have to be operated with a pair of tweezers. Young C Park, from Honolulu, took three years and 6,000 hours to complete the model. Cut away on the left side to show the internal workings, all the sections were machined from common aluminium roof flashing. The metal is annealed to the proper softness, making it easier to form and carve.
Mr Park, 77, used more than 50ft of aluminium, reforming and shaping it on a lathe until he was happy with the result. The metal was usually moulded over a wooden support, but for the large area of the skin behind the cockpit he used the ball of his foot to get the correct shape.
*bumped* An item for the regulars
I have a domain that expires next month 12-13-09. I don’t really have a use for it but thought one of you might. If I know you or someone else here does I’ll give you the domain. I don’t want money for it, but you will have to renew it after transfer.
The domain is: rightwinggeek.com
Let me know if you want it and we’ll work out the transfer.
New Website Idea
I’ve been working on a little something for about a week. I’ve been learning a new programming language and web framework. The obvious project to learn with was simply re-creating H&B.com. So that’s what I’ve been doing lately.
The first step obviously is to replicate all the existing functionality that I currently have here with Wordpress. Once that is done, I get to start adding new features. One of the first features I have in mind is for y’all. I’d like to add a means of tagging regular commenters. Either an image attached to all of your comments, or a total comment count, date since your first comment here, etc. I could even make it specific to each person (like adding Woody’s signature that he ends his posts with on his site to his comments here). Just something to let someone who just stumbled in off the street know who the Certified & Tested Morons are.
Anyway, as soon as it is more or less functional, I’ll let y’all know so you can all start playing with it (the website i mean).
You just can’t photograph a cocktail
Or at least I can’t.

I tried to get a picture of this thing. Honestly, in person, it is a redish golden color. Looks like a red-tinted bourbon. Beautiful. I must’ve taken a dozen pictures and cant’ get the lighting right. The picture always comes out too red/dark.
Oh well. This is what I’m fucking drinking. If anyone has any advice about photographing booze let me know.
