Poll Dancing Weenies

Posted by LC Aggie Sith on Thursday, July 1, 2010 in AssHatery, Left Wing Media, Poll

I am not one to pay attention to polls. I find very few of them to be useful, and feel that most of them are out to sway public opinion in someone’s favor. Case in point: the fracas between Daily Kos founder Markos *spit* Moulitsas and Research 2000, a polling firm. And this poll is no different:

At first glance, this seems innocuous, until you peruse the rest of the polls and find that this is the only one they closed off to voting. The other polls are still open to vote. Then you have this:

Only 63 percent of those Americans surveyed think that our sitting president is serving in the office legally. Is it the success of the “right wing conspiracy” or failure of our academic instruction in civics and government that would lead 24 percent of respondents into believing Barack Obama was born in another country, and another 13 percent to be apparently unaware that the U.S. Constitution requires that the president of the United States be a “natural born citizen”?

How about option C: failure of our civics lessons such that 63 percent of the population is clueless to the meaning of “natural born citizen”, or option D: an attempt by the “left wing media” to redefine “natural born citizen” and push their agenda?

See? I can play the game, too.

Poll Dancing

Posted by LC Aggie Sith on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 in Politics, Poll

Scouring the interwebtubethingy for news, I came across a poll over at the Washington Times:

A majority of Americans say the United States is less respected in the world than it was two years ago and think President Obama and other Democrats fall short of Republicans on the issue of national security, a new poll finds.

The Democracy Corps-Third Way survey released Monday finds that by a 10-point margin — 51 percent to 41 percent — Americans think the standing of the U.S. dropped during the first 13 months of Mr. Obama’s presidency.

The really interesting part about this poll is that it was conducted by Democracy Corps(e) and Third Way. Democracy Corps(e) was founded by none other than James Carville, former Bill Clinton adviser, and Stanley Greenberg, Democratic pollster. Third Way bills itself as “the leading moderate think-tank of the progressive movement.” So, not exactly non-partisan.

The Democrats’ gap on national security has widened on several other fronts:

“Keeping America safe”: Democrats now trail by 13 points (34 percent to 47 percent.) The gap was just 5 points in July 2008.

“Ensuring a strong military”: Democrats trail by 31 points (27 percent to 58 percent.)

“Making America safer from nuclear threats”: Democrats trail by 11 points (34 percent to 45 percent,) “despite the president’s strong actions and speeches on steps to reduce nuclear dangers,” the pollsters said.

And yet, the pollsters think this is surprising, because Prez Obama has had wonderful accolades the world over, not to mention he was awarded the Nobel Piss Prize. Here’s a newsflash: Obama gets accolades for eroding our standing in the world, and he gets them from politicians. Remember the words of the head of the Nobel Piss Prize committee:

“He got the prize for what he has done.”

Nevermind that nominations for the prize had to be postmarked by February 1, only 12 days after Prez Obama took office. And let’s not forget how Irena Sendler was passed over, either, first in favor of The Goron and the IPCC, and then Prez Obama and his Twelve Days of Teh Glories.

Fuck ‘em with the epic fuckfist of FAIL.

Booze Poll

Well, the poll results show whiskey and rum tied. I’d generally lean towards whiskey if not for an excessively generous donation by beefsalad.

So, rum it is.

Polls

I’ve added a new feature to H&B. Polls. The current poll is simply a question of class of booze you enjoy. Yes, I realize there are many different Rums, Whisk(e)ys, Beers, etc. The next poll will probably take the top two from this poll and break them down into smaller categories. I’m just looking for the broad strokes here.

The other purpose of such a broad poll is just to see if any of you are interested in such a thing. It would take more effort than I care to expend to attach a particular user to his/her vote. I’m not going to lie to you, I probably could attach a vote to a user (not sure, but probably) but I do know it would be far more effort than its worth. I get that privacy doesn’t really matter when it comes to what kind of booze you like, but that goes for any future polls as well.

So, the big test will be over the next couple of weeks or so. I do know how many regular commenters i have and roughly how many individuals visit this site so I’ll have a ballpark estimate of how many folks give a shit about the polls.

One last word about polls as they relate to this site: Questions concerning topics I post about will be affected by the polls. That is to say if a significant number of my readers prefer whiskey to rum, I will place my priorities on whiskey as opposed to rum. That is not to say I’ll not eventuallly get around to both, but preferences will (and should) be dictated by those interested as I’m not a news organization.

(I will vote in each poll, but will not be the first.)
