Another One May Have Bitten the Dust
Big news this morning?? Muammar Qaddafi may have been captured. Or killed. We don’t know, yet.
Conflicting reports emerged on Thursday that Libyan strongman Muammar Qaddafi has been captured or killed.
“Qaddafi is dead. He is absolutely dead… he was shot in both legs and in the head. The body will be arriving in Misrata soon,” media spokesman Abdullah Berrassali told Sky News.
Libyan TV channel Libya lil Ahrar, meanwhile, said the ousted dictator was in custody.
The conflicting reports come on the heels of Qaddafi’s hometown of Sirte falling to the Transitional National Council’s forces. It was the last stronghold of Quaddafi supporters. If indeed Quaddafi is captured or killed, that means that Libya is under rebel control, and isn’t that what our administration wanted when we sent troops to Libya? Because, you know, this administration wants to end the wars and all, so we sent troops and fought from the air to end the Iraq War, or some such thing. I get confused.
I’m not sure Qaddafi gone is a good thing, or a bad thing, politically speaking. Personally, I can’t wait to hear if the bastich is servicing Satan.
*Goes to read the news again*
Still awaiting confirmation, dammit. I hate waiting…

Karma is Feeling Groovy
Oh yes…. Karma is quite the unrepentant bitch, and rightly so. Witness how she just gave Julian Assange a taste of his own medicide*:
The autobiography of Julian Assange is published today despite attempts by the WikiLeaks founder to suppress it after a bitter row with its publisher.
Oh, the rich, rich taste of that bastard’s tears!!
Actually, forget tasting them. Just go ahead and bathe in them.
“I have kept my own counsel about the matter until now,” he writes. “It will be difficult to keep anger out of this account, owing to the sheer level of malice and opportunism that has driven the case against me.”
Newsflash, you idiot: YOU brought this upon yourself. YOU were the one who insisted that EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD should be available to EVERYONE. YOU were the one who laughed at the concept of “privacy”. Now, you are making a mockery of yourself, pining for the same privacy that you felt no one and no country should ever have.
You wanted to play God on your terms, and forgot the other side of the coin, Assange. Welcome to Karma, and I hope you choke on that bitter pill.

Update [ArmedGeek]: In honor of hilljohnny’s birthday, I present him with an array of asses.
What? Two is an “array”!
Remembering
Last Friday, I overheard a woman speaking to her friend how she just didn’t understand why we don’t move on and not think about 9/11/01 any more. To her, it was just so long ago, and we should just put it behind us. I admit, I was very angry. Forgetting is the first step in repeating, after all. But 9/11 was not “long ago”. Not when you have a gaping hole still seeping in the middle of New York City, one that wounds the Nation’s soul. A gaping hole that keeps being salted by the likes of political correctness. I ask you, how can you forget about this:
Remembering gives us hope. Remembering gives us a goal. Remembering honors those who were killed, and those who died to protect us.
Forgetting lets the terrorists win.

TSA Calls, Texas Folds
Some of y’all may be aware of this, but my great state was on the verge of passing a law making TSA invasive pat-downs a felony. HB 1937, which basically would have made it “[a] criminal act for security personnel to touch a person’s private areas without probable cause as a condition of travel or as a condition of entry into a public place,” had passed the Texas House with a vote of 138-0. Yes, you read that correctly. There was no single vote against this bill in the House. After the House vote, it went to the Senate. And in a supreme act of cowardice, they caved to the federal government.
Dewhurst has said the bill did not have the votes to pass, a fact he learned after the debate began. Patrick pulled down the bill from consideration after the debate began, and a vote never took place. The bill had lost support after senators had learned that federal officials had warned that such ban would violate federal law and could bring court challenges and airport shutdowns.
Excuse me, but what law would that be? Well, according to the federales, that would be the Supremacy Clause. According to the TSA, the Supremacy Clause prevents states from regulating the federal government. According to the Constitution, though, it states that federal law made adherent to the Constitution is above states’ laws. Totally different than what the TSA claims.
But you may ask, what caused the State Senate to cave in such a manner? That’s simple: extortion:
If HR [sic] 1937 were enacted, the federal government would likely seek an emergency stay of the statute. Unless or until such a stay were granted, TSA would likely be required to cancel any flight or series of flights for which it could not ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
We urge that you consider the ramifications of this bill before casting your vote.
They can’t even get the name of the bill right. According to Lt. Gov. Dewhurst, they “didn’t have the votes” to pass the bill. Well, then, actually TAKING the vote on it wouldn’t have mattered, and the bill wouldn’t have passed anyway, so why bother pulling it?? When did the TSA become so powerful that they can dictate who can fly in or out of a state? When did they become so powerful that they can extort states? Whatever happened to the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States??
If this is in the name of “transportation security”, why were there TSA patdowns conducted at a high school prom?
TSA could not be reached for comment.
Purple Hearts for Concussions
(Guest post by LC Draco)
Okay, I have been round and round with fellow combat veterans over this subject. Apparently there are several lines of thought. “If you do not bleed, you do not get a Purple Heart.” comes to mind. The Army just released new guidance, that DOES NOT change the criteria, just clarifies it. The Purple Heart is unique in a couple of ways. One, you only need to meet the CRITERIA for the award. Second, there is no statute of limitations for submission. The Army is still giving out PHs for survivors of WWi, WWII, Korean and Vietnam vets.
OK, here is the rub. The first is a Memorandum signed by COL Caravalho in 2008. http://www.pdhealth.mil/downloads/mTBI_Policy6may.pdf He is now the Commander of Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. I have chatted with him and he is an honest and professional soldier. (Knowing how the Army works, I PERSONALLY think a staff member snuck a specific sentence in the memo. I can not confirm or deny that, though!)
Second, the new Army guidance… www.hrc.army.mil/site/media/releases/042911PHTBIRelease.pdf
Now several of you know my brother was shot in Baghdad and, rightfully, received a Purple Heart for his injury. My team and I were in Iraq in 2004 and were on the receiving end of numerous mortar and rocket attacks, but due to the military mindset and our being in the middle of nowhere, were never submitted for Purple Hearts for concussions/mTBI. I did not even know I was eligible until December of last year. Several of my team, including myself, have been diagnosed several times with Mild Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Concussion Syndrome. New technology (post 2005) allows brain injuries to be documented and verified.
Now the point of this post….Do you believe, regardless of what military regulations state, that concussions or any non-visible wound warrant a Purple Heart? And, does it diminish the award? (As a side note, I am AGAINST awarding the PH for PTSD.)

Bin Laden Dead

Image creatively borrowed from Ace.
From Fox News:
Usama bin Laden is dead, multiple sources confirm to Fox News.
President Obama is expected to deliver a statement from the White House Sunday night to discuss the major development.
Sources said bin Laden was killed by a U.S. bomb a week ago. The U.S. had been waiting for the results of a DNA test to confirm his identity.
The announcement comes nearly a decade after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks which started a tireless hunt for the terrorist mastermind and Al Qaeda leader.
Update [ArmedGeek]:
Osama Bin Laden was asked to surrender by US troops before he was shot dead, Fox News is quoting intelligence sources as saying.
The terrorist leader had always said he would not be captured alive.
Bin Laden was shot dead during a raid by US ground troops on a compound in Pakistan. His body was captured by the Americans.
The troops landed in four helicopters. One of the helicopters suffered mechanical failure and was destroyed by the Americans. However none of the American soldiers were killed.
One of Bin Laden’s sons was also killed in
the operation.
An adult son of bin Laden, and a woman used as human shield, were also killed in operation, according to NBC, which reported that two helicopters were used to attack a compound in Pakistan where bin Laden was hiding.
They were led to the fortress-like three-story building after more than four years tracking one of bin Laden’s most trusted couriers, whom U.S. officials said was identified by men captured after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Observation Point Restrepo
(Guest post by LC Draco)
The unit -- 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (ABN), 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team
For those of you unaware of the name and the story, it is an outpost named after one of the first soldiers killed at that outpost in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan (The Korengal Valley was regarded as “the deadliest place on Earth”). The story is about the soldiers who went in and set up an outpost in the middle of the night and how they fought to keep it!
If you have not seen the movie…GET IT, WATCH IT, then WATCH IT AGAIN!! It is an emotional, fierce and in-your-face documentary. It received the Grand Jury Prize for best documentary at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. (One of the directors, Tim Hetherington, was the photojournalist killed in Libya on 20 April, 2011).
But now…to the trailer at the official web site. It is a peek into one OP of many and what some of our soldiers go through every day.
R.I.P. PFC Restrepo and your brothers that died there with you. You and your brethren display the TRUE American soldier!!

UPDATE:
Restrepo, A Year In Afghanistan is going to be shown on National Geographic channel Monday 25 April at 9pm, Eastern.
There Are Signs Everywhere
Yesterday, I was taking the kids out for dinner, and Eldest brought up a group whose music she and her brother enjoy. I was tickled by the band’s name, Five Finger Death Punch, and we were talking about the origins of the name, and the movies where we had heard the term. She came home, and pulled up YouTube for a bit, to listen to it. As I sat there, listening to it, I started thinking of those far away from us, doing a job some Americans are too bitter to do. And my heart hurt.
This morning I find a YouTube link in my email. Same group, same song, and my heart broke all over again:

As far as I’m concerned, CAIR should be deported and sent to the Middle East, before we turn that place into desert glass.

No, we in the real world are not surprised at all. DHS sugested he was “nervous” and “misspoke”. Of course, DHS would not confirm or deny the allegations, either.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for this government to come save you.
