Girlie Drink of the Week

Posted by LC Aggie Sith on Thursday, December 1, 2011 in BOOZE!!

Yes, I know we had the BOOZE* of the Week earlier, but this is Hookers and BOOZE*, which means that technically, half of the posts should be about BOOZE*, right? And I know where that leads in y’all’s sense of logic, so I’ll stop there.

Yesterday while being a hostage to the Cartoon Network switching channels I saw an add for one of those weird reality shows where brides are involved. I think it was called Say Yes to the Bridezilla Acing a Cake Wondering If It’s Her Wedding Anyway. I didn’t watch it, except I did see what was being served at the “bridal luncheon”, probably to deal with five dozen women having histrionics at one sitting:

Champagne Cocktail

  • 3 oz Champagne
  • 1/3 oz Cognac
  • Angostura Bitters
  • Sugar Cube

Soak one sugar cube in a champagne flute with angostura bitters. Add champagne and cognac. Squeeze in a twist of lemon and discard. Garnish with half a slice of orange, or as I prefer, raspberries. I love the combination of lemon and raspberries, and the splash of red looks gorgeous against the pale gold of the champagne.

Remember: don’t drink it for looks. Drink it because it will make dealing with idiots at parties a lot easier.

*Yep, still G0000000gling for hits here.

Booze of the Week

Posted by ArmedGeek on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 in BOTW

Glenfiddich 15 year old single malt scotch is the current Booze of the Week. I’ve only first cracked this one open but damn this stuff has some flavor. First impressions are important and this one makes a good first impression. I’ll update and bump this in a couple of days when I’ve had more time to enjoy it.

Bump & Update [ArmedGeek]:

I’m unable to find fault with this scotch. Sure it may not score tops in any given category but it does place pretty high in most every aspect. If you’ve not been down the scotch path and are looking to try it, I still suggest the Macallan 12 but if you want something with a bit stronger flavor, this would be one to grab.

Not too expensive either as this came in at just shy of $50 for the fifth. The Macallan 12 and the Glenfiddich 15 certainly do make me look forward to spending more money in the scotch aisle of my friendly neighborhood liquor store.

May as well do a Football update here:

…and a Deadpool update:
No new deaths, but we do have about 3 or 4 celebs that have been circling the drain here lately.

Here’s a Hooker .. and some Booze

Posted by ArmedGeek on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in BOOZE!!, BOTW, Football, HOOKER!!, HOTW

Yes, I had to try out what is probably the most popular blended scotch out there. I have to say, it isn’t bad. The taste, the smell and the color are all pleasant. There’s really only one bad thing I can say about the stuff. It has a flavor more like Irish whiskey than Scotch. Now, for me, this is not a bad thing as I really like Irish whiskey but for a scotch drinker, this ain’t gonna cut it. It does have a more scotch-y flavor than you’d find in an Irish whiskey but it is very easy to drink. On this one, I have to say “for the price” it is pretty good stuff.

Girlie Drink of the Week

Today’s pick hails from that haven of old money, Neiman Marcus. Or like Hubby likes to call it, Needless Mark-ups. I like to walk around that store. It makes me appreciate having common sense, because there is no way in hell I would ever pay $500 for a pair of torn faded jeans. Or $2,000 for a necklace made of brass and stainless steel. I kid you not.

However, if there is one thing the restaurant at Neiman Marcus can be counted on, it’s to provide a frou-frou drink made from designer liqueurs, and charge you an arm, a leg, and a unit of plasma for it. At least they now share their recipes free of charge. I still remember the poor man who was charged $250 for the Neiman Marcus Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. Thanks to the interwebtubenets, he got his revenge.

White Raspberry Cosmo

  • 3 oz. Chambord™ Vodka
  • 2 oz. Cointreau™
  • 1 oz. Lime Juice
  • 2 oz. White Cranberry Juice

Shake over ice, strain into two martini glasses and garnish with a raspberries. The recipe makes two servings, or one serving if you use a RedNek™ Wine Glass, or if you drink your martini from a measuring cup.

Like y’all have never done that!! ;)

Girlie Drink of the Week

Posted by LC Aggie Sith on Thursday, November 3, 2011 in BOOZE!!, BOTW

Awesome! Time for BOOZE* at H&B!! After the week I’ve had (so far, because it ain’t over), I need a few of anything.

The featured drink for this week is more of a summer drink. It is also a very famous drink. There are songs, a movie, a band (or five) named after it. The ease of making it is rivalled only by the prettiness of the color, even though it falls in the orange side of the spectrum.

Tequila Sunrise

  • 2 oz. Tequila
  • Orange Juice
  • 2 dashes of Grenadine

Pour tequila in glass of your choice with ice, and top with orange juice. Stir. Add grenadine by tilting glass and pouring grenadine down side by flipping the bottle vertically very quickly (it helps if the grenadine bottle has a little pourer to prevent over-dosing on this). The grenadine should go straight to the bottom and then rise up slowly through the drink. Garnish with cherry and an orange slice.

I have done this as a martini glass drink, too. I shake the OJ and tequila over ice, and pour into a sugar-rimmed martini glass. The grenadine looks very pretty on the bottom of the glass. My sister omits the sugar and grenadine altogether and calls it a Mexican Screwdriver. I call it heresy. My brother-in-law omits the OJ and calls it Nytol.

I can’t argue with that :)

Girlie Drink of the Week

Posted by LC Aggie Sith on Thursday, October 27, 2011 in BOOZE!!, BOTW

In a few days, we shall be celebrating Halloween. That means some of us will be dressing up and going to parties or handing out candy, or both. What it really means is, we are going to get mighty tired of kids ringing the doorbell and saying “TRICK OR TREAT!!!” while looking down their nose at your pathetic taste in candy. I get to do that from the comfort of a block party, where all the neighbors bring their candy and we serve the kids in an assembly line. What the hell does this have to do with BOOZE*??

It means I get to start drinking early. And what better drink, than one that looks so innocent??

The Lemon Drop

  • 1 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz Lemon Juice
  • 1 Sugar Cube

Add sugar to the rim of an old-fashioned glass, and drop a cube or packet of sugar into the bottom of the glass. Pour vodka and lemon juice into a stainless steel shaker over ice, and shake until completely cold. Pour into the prepared old-fashioned glass, and serve. Personally, I like using Sugar in the Raw™ to rim the glass, since it’s prettier than yellow colored sugar. Also, I add two cubes instead of one. Why? Well, for one thing, I like sweeter BOOZE*, and for another, I can get sloshed a lot quicker.

*Yes, still angling for the G00000glers.

Om, Nom, Nom….

Posted by LC Aggie Sith on Friday, October 21, 2011 in BOOZE!!, Food Porn, Open Thread

I had nothing to inspired me today. I mean nothing. Not even BOOZE*. Quit calling me a heretic. It’s just that there’s a lot going on around here with schooling, and projects, and ROTC, and birthdays, and fill-in-the-blank. The highlight this morning was getting spam from Al Jazzera. I was at a loss as to that.

Anyway, I was perusing Fecesbook (I prefer that name), and guess what I found out??

IT’S INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE NACHO!!

Yeppers and peppers!! That wonderful concoction of spicy delights, created right across the border from Eagle Pass in Piedras Negras, and inspired by U.S. military wives has its own day.

I cannot stress the importance of this wonderful comfort food. The ease of making it is only rivalled by its medley of flavors. As y’all know, I am a fan of comfort foods and one-pot meals, and this dish covers both rather deliciously. And to wash it down with a cold beer is heavenly.

Yes, with this beer, Negra Modelo. Corona is too watery, and hipster. I don’t even use it for cooking. Consider this your BOOZE* of the Week.

So, what are y’all’s favorite comfort foods? And the perfect libations (or BOOZE*, for the G0000000glers), that go with it?

Old Timer Drink of the Week

Posted by LC Aggie Sith on Thursday, October 13, 2011 in BOOZE!!, BOTW

Fall is in the air! Well, not really around here, though the summertime temperatures of over 100* F have gone the way of the dodo. Still, it’s autumn regardless of the burning ball in the sky. And with autumn comes a change in girlie drinks and BOOZE** at Casa de Aggie. I move from “light and refreshing” to “warm and comforting”.  By “warm” I mean syrupy and thick, not necessarily warm in temperature. I’m in Texas, not Wisconsin. So, I give you the Girlie Drink of the Week, by way of a Time Machine*:

BRANDY ALEXANDER

  • 1 ½ oz. Brandy
  • 1 oz. Dark Creme de Cacao
  • 1 oz. Half-n-Half
  • ¼ tsp Grated Nutmeg

In a shaker half-filled with ice cubes, combine the brandy, creme de cacao, and half-and-half. Shake well. Strain into a sugar-rimmed cocktail glass and garnish with the nutmeg. You can also use grated allspice. I like using a combination of cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg for a very autumn-y flavor. Brings to mind pumpkin pie, only with BOOZE**.

* According to Bako, this is a Grandma drink. According to me, Grandma had it going on if she was getting sloshed to this.

** Still G0000000gling for hits.

Girlie Drink of the Week

Posted by LC Aggie Sith on Thursday, October 6, 2011 in BOOZE!!, BOTW

I swear, I had this in mind before yesterday’s news.

For me, it’s all about the glass. The BOOZE* has to be in a pretty glass. That’s probably why I gravitate towards martini-like drinks so much. And probably why I own ten Lolita™ martini glasses. But presentation counts, right? I was going to do Tequila Sunrise, but I hate drinking BOOZE* from a highball. It makes me feel like I’m hiding the fact that I’m drinking BOOZE*.

So I give you instead, the Washington Apple Shot:

WASHINGTON APPLE SHOT:

  • 1 oz. Whiskey (BOOZE*)
  • 1 oz. Sour Apple Schnapps(BOOZE*)
  • 1 oz. Cranberry Juice
  • Splash of Sprite or Tonic Water

Pour whiskey, schnapps, and cranberry juice into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well, and strain into a cinnamon sugar-rimmed martini glass. Add Sprite or tonic water if desired. Garnish with an apple wedge.

*Yes, still doing the shameless G00000000gle whoring.

Quintessentialism

Posted by LC Aggie Sith on Friday, September 30, 2011 in BOOZE!!, HOOKER!!, Open Thread, Total Bullshit

Ah yes…the perfect thing. Well, not really perfect, as in “without faults”, but more along the lines of the picture that comes to mind when you think of a generalized item. For example, when I think of “cookie”, I think of this:

Mmmmm….chocolatey goodness. And yet, it is not my favorite cookie.

Don’t you dare call me a heretic.

Anyway, some things are obvious to most of us. We envision a cup of coffee as being dark and steaming, even though we may drink it with milk or creamer, or iced. When someone says “french fries”, we picture a red carton of fries from McDonald’s, even though we may actually prefer to eat the waffle ones from Chick-Fil-A.

But when it comes to BOOZE*, it’s different. Hubby may very well picture a bottle of scotch, whereas I picture a margarita. His may be closer than mine to a quintessential item, but it may be that since I don’t drink it often, it doesn’t come to mind when someone asks. Personal preference will out.

So, our question today is, what is the quintessential HOOKER* and the quintessential BOOZE*??

*Yes, still trying to get G0000000000gle results in our favor. It’s shameless, but it works ;)
